KDDI has announced the launch of the “KDDI Beyond Borders Accelerator,” an accelerator supporting the overseas expansion of Japan-origin startups. The program aims to help startups establish a track record in overseas markets and acquire their first overseas corporate customers by leveraging the expertise of US venture capital firms and the KDDI Group’s network of operating companies.
For the first cohort, 5 AI startups have been selected and will spend 1 month in San Francisco, California, receiving hands-on support. With support from mentors who bring a local investor perspective, the startups will work on customer development and the creation of business opportunities.
Building on its longstanding track record in promoting open innovation, KDDI aims to bridge Japan-origin startups and global markets. The program is positioned as an initiative supporting startups’ initial overseas expansion in collaboration with leading US venture capital firms, including Alumni Ventures, Carbide Ventures and Interlagos Capital.
The first cohort includes AironWorks, Findy, LR, MODE and Outerport. Further details will be provided on a dedicated website, with the Open Innovation Promotion Headquarters serving as the program’s driving force.
