Transaction prices for printing paper are expected to rise significantly from this autumn onward. Paper manufacturers are raising prices amid higher material costs resulting from prolonged tensions in the Middle East and subdued demand.
Transaction prices for printing paper used in magazines, newspapers and other publications are reported to be set to rise by approximately 15% from this autumn onward. Major paper manufacturers implemented price increases from June through August, and further increases are expected to continue.
The price increases are attributed to higher costs for fuel, raw materials and materials resulting from prolonged turmoil in the Middle East, with paper manufacturers reportedly announcing additional price increases. In addition, production cuts and supply restrictions are progressing in response to shrinking domestic demand.
Pressure on publication prices is intensifying, and the increases are viewed as a factor that could put pressure on the operations of publishers and newspaper companies. Trends in paper materials will continue to draw attention.
