HPCシステムズ President Ono Teppei (小野鉄平) said the company aims to grow into a niche leader by providing high-performance computing environments that accelerate research and development, with an eye to the arrival of the quantum era. The company said it supports the optimisation of customer environments across both university and government research institutions and private-sector research and development divisions, centred on its HPC and CTO businesses.
HPCシステムズ President Ono Teppei (小野鉄平) explained that computing environments capable of supporting vast amounts of data processing and advanced simulations are indispensable to modern research and development, and said the company has established a distinctive position as a behind-the-scenes player supporting the front lines of research and development.
The company’s business is centred mainly on two areas, its HPC business and CTO business. It explained that the HPC business develops, manufactures and sells equipment for scientific and technological computing at universities and government agencies, while the CTO business develops, manufactures and sells embedded computers for industrial machinery. In automotive terms, the two businesses are positioned like an FI car focused on speed and a jeep prioritising durability.
Universities and government agencies account for approximately 30% of the customer base, while private-sector companies account for approximately 70%. The use of HPC is said to be increasing across a broad range of fields, including automotive, aerospace, materials development, weather forecasting and drug discovery, as well as in the research and development divisions of companies such as AA.
Activity surrounding the development of quantum computers is becoming increasingly vigorous, while the importance of high-performance computing environments that determine the competitiveness of research and development is rising with the spread of AI. Full-scale development and adoption are anticipated. HPCシステムズ is said to intend to continue providing the underlying technological support amid this trend.
