A man in his 40s who donated his organs after being declared brain-dead has died, leaving 6 people a chance at life through the donation of his heart, liver, kidneys and corneas. Details of the donation have emerged following announcements by his family and the hospital.
Park Jeong-hui donated his organs at Chosun University Hospital on the 4th of this month, giving his heart, liver, both kidneys and corneas and leaving 6 people a chance at a new life. He was subsequently taken to the hospital and declared brain-dead, after which his family decided to proceed with the donation.
The organ donation was carried out based on a determination of brain death, and the bereaved family is said to have been supportive of organ donation during his lifetime. Park was an only son, but raised an only daughter together with her mother and was known to those around him for his compassionate character.
He worked in sales for approximately 20 years and raised his daughter alone after his wife died. The family is reported to have decided to donate his organs in accordance with his wishes.
His mother, No Pan-im, said that she continued to support her son while he was in hospital and that many acquaintances and former colleagues visited the funeral home. She looked back on his life, saying, “It was short, but it was a fine life.”
