NIKON CORPORATION has updated the software for its Robot Vision System, adding a new 3D vision tracking function. Availability is scheduled to begin in October 2026.
NIKON CORPORATION announced that it will update the software for its Robot Vision System, which enables robot arms to operate at high speed and with flexibility, and add 3D vision tracking as a new function. By taking three-dimensional measurements of workpieces with 3D sensors, the system detects not only position but also orientation, including tilt, and front/back orientation, improving tracking flexibility. No additional equipment such as encoders is required, and the system is expected to be used in a wide range of production environments.
The function will be provided as software for the Robot Vision System, and customers who have already installed the product will be able to use it through a paid software update. Availability is scheduled to begin in October 2026.
As high-mix, variable-volume production and severe labor shortages have become challenges, particularly in the automotive industry, NIKON CORPORATION has added 3D vision tracking to its product lineup. Tracking with 3D sensors enables more advanced picking and assembly of workpieces in random orientations.
Potential use cases, related information, and demonstrations at trade shows are also introduced.
