Apple announced that iOS 27 will increase AirDrop transfer speeds by up to 80% and also speed up app launches, photo loading, and switching between Wi-Fi and mobile networks. The official release is scheduled for September 15.
Apple has announced that iOS 27 will increase AirDrop transfer speeds by up to 80%, while apps will launch up to 30% faster and new photos will load into the photo library up to 70% faster. Connectivity features have also been improved, making it more seamless to switch between available Wi-Fi and mobile networks.
The announcement emphasized that older models will also benefit. Apple said it used an iPhone 11 Pro Max to test app launch speeds, an iPhone 15 to test photo loading, and an iPhone 16 Plus to test AirDrop. This means users may be able to experience the performance improvements without upgrading to a new device.
iOS 27 is scheduled for official release on September 15 (Tuesday) Japan time, and can be installed on iPhones because its supported devices are the same as those for iOS 26. An RC (release candidate) was released in the early hours of September 10, and beta testing is continuing ahead of the official release.
