Salesforce suffered a global outage while Dreamforce was underway, causing delays and service disruptions across cloud services in multiple regions, including the US, UK, France, Germany and Japan. The impact was also reported in Japan, and the stock fell in premarket trading.
Salesforce was hit by a major global outage on 16 September while Dreamforce was underway. The outage began at around 7:50 a.m. UTC. The cause was attributed to waiting for a response from an internal login service and excessive consumption of server resources, and validation of a fix began after 6:56 a.m. US Eastern Time.
The outage affected customer instances across multiple markets, including the US, UK, Germany, France, India and Japan, resulting in severe delays and errors as well as an inability to access services. In Japan, the impact was confirmed from the evening onward, and PayPay notified users at around 5:15 p.m. Japan time whether its inquiry form was available.
Recovery required some instances to be restarted, delaying the rollout across the entire environment. The initial deployment of the fix did not cover all instances, so the fix was reapplied and manual restarts were carried out. In some cases, cache data had to be cleared and new sessions started. Ultimately, the remaining impact was said to be limited to part of Hyperforce.
Financially, Salesforce reported second-quarter revenue of $11.35 billion, up 11% year on year, and remaining performance obligations of $33.5 billion, up 14% from the year-earlier period. The stock fell approximately 0.4%–0.5% in premarket trading, drawing market attention alongside the event ahead of Dreamforce. Dreamforce itself was scheduled to feature announcements on new AI-related strategies and partnerships.
