Tokyo Metro has made public a demonstration projecting crowding levels onto the floor inside Kita-Senju Station on the Chiyoda Line. The system displays real-time crowding levels for each car of arriving trains, showing less crowded cars in green and cars judged to be crowded.
Tokyo Metro has installed equipment near the passageway outside the ticket gates at Kita-Senju Station on the Chiyoda Line and made public a demonstration that updates crowding levels for each car of arriving trains in real time.
Crowding levels are obtained by analyzing footage captured by a depth camera with AI. The results are shown to passengers as guidance projected onto the floor, with cars expected to be crowded displayed and less crowded cars shown in green.
The demonstration is part of an initiative that began in 2021. Although the technology has made visualization possible, the demonstration is scheduled to continue through December to assess information viewing and changes in passenger behavior during the morning rush hour.
