The 7 railway operators will launch a new service in spring 2027, with magnetic tickets changed to QR tickets. QR tickets will be accepted across all routes and at all stations, and are expected to be issued as large-format tickets measuring 57.5×85mm.
Seven railway operators have announced plans to transition from magnetic tickets to QR code-based tickets. The companies involved are Keisei Electric Railway, Keikyu Corporation, Sendai Airport Transit, Tokyo Monorail, Tobu Railway, East Japan Railway Company, and Hokuso Railway. The new service will launch in spring 2027.
Under the new service, QR tickets will be accepted across all routes and at all stations operated by the 7 companies. The method of use may vary depending on the equipment installed at each station, but the companies aim to promote a ticketless environment similar to that provided by transit IC cards and mobile services.
QR tickets will generally be issued as large-format tickets measuring 57.5×85mm. Exceptions may apply in some cases, and related information is provided in the attached materials.
Further details have been released in a press release. Operators launching services from fiscal 2027 onward will be announced as they are decided.
