US-based Formlabs has announced the low-cost desktop resin 3D printer Form Studio 1. Pricing in Japan starts at approximately ¥120,000, with shipping scheduled to begin on 16 November.
US 3D printer manufacturer Formlabs has announced the new desktop resin 3D printer Form Studio 1. The official Japanese website lists prices from $769 (approximately ¥120,000), while the US website is scheduled to sell it from $699 (approximately ¥110,000). Orders are already being accepted, and authorized distributors in Japan are also taking reservations.
Form Studio 1 uses MSLA technology, exposing resin to ultraviolet light through an LCD panel. It has a 35µm pixel size, a maximum build volume of 200×125×235mm and an adjustable layer thickness of 50 to 250µm. It is said to be capable of producing many models within 2 hours when the layer thickness is set to 100µm.
Despite being a low-cost model, it has automatic resin feed, heating up to 45°C, sensors monitoring resin temperature, level and load, and communications functions including a 7-inch touchscreen and Wi‑Fi/Ethernet/USB‑C. The resin tank has a durable design rated for more than 75,000 layers, but the film cannot be replaced.
Six types of Alpha Resin and 3 types of functional resin are available. Other manufacturers' resins can also be used with Open Material Mode, but the automatic resin feed function is unavailable and the separately sold Resin Tank Pro may be required. From a safety perspective, the printer has obtained UL GREENGUARD Gold certification.
