持田製薬 began a late-stage clinical trial of a treatment for morning sickness on the 26th. The trial will evaluate the efficacy and safety in Japan of Bonjesta, an oral drug developed by Canadian company Duchesnay, in 214 women at 7–14 weeks of pregnancy.
Bonjesta is approved in 45 countries worldwide, including the United States in 2016 and Europe in 2023. It has remained unapproved in Japan.
If the trial results are accepted, the drug could become the first in Japan recognized as effective for morning sickness symptoms during pregnancy. The company has indicated that, following approval, it aims to launch the drug by 2030.
