The fourth installment of the newspaper seminar examines real-world examples of business succession through M&A and cases in which closure was avoided amid the absence of successors for business owners in Kyushu. It provides details of cases in which a single phone call helped businesses overcome the threat of closure.
M&A is being highlighted, particularly in Kyushu, as an option for business succession. One specific example of how closure due to the absence of a successor was avoided is a community-based dispensing pharmacy. After deciding to close, the owner received a proposal for succession to a third party through M&A and transferred the business to a major dispensing pharmacy chain operating nationwide, allowing the business to continue.
The pivotal factor in the case was a single phone call. M&A Capital Partners contacted the owner just before the planned closure, explaining the benefits of succession to a third party and presenting potential acquirers. Although initially negative, the owner became receptive after hearing about the company's track record and the potential acquirers, leading to the transaction's completion. The deal was completed under tight time constraints before the closure deadline, preserving the jobs of employees and regional healthcare services.
