Tokyo stocks fell for a second straight session on 8 October. Among game and entertainment-related stocks, movements varied by name: Falcom lost its morning surge, Bushiroad traded near its highs on strong TCG performance, and Takara Tomy rebounded in the afternoon session.
The Nikkei Average closed down ¥993.60 from the previous day at ¥69,042.11, as profit-taking in AI and semiconductor-related stocks and expectations of higher interest rates created a broadly weak market tone. Among the 98 registered game and entertainment-related stocks, 24 rose, 68 fell and 6 were unchanged, indicating a market dominated by selling.
Among major stocks, Capcom fell for a second straight session amid reports that Nomura Securities had raised its target price while downgrading its rating from “Buy” to “Neutral.” Sony Group also fell for a second straight session, with reports also emerging that its target price had been lowered.
Nihon Falcom lost its morning surge and turned lower in the afternoon session. Although the company announced an increase in its dividend, market attention may have shifted to its outlook for the next fiscal year.
In the hobby and leisure segment, Bushiroad was bought on reports that shipments of the official Palworld trading card game had surpassed 11 million packs, which was seen as a catalyst. Takara Tomy rebounded in the afternoon session, attracting attention after jointly announcing the launch of a new trading card game.
Among other game-related stocks, as well as stocks outside the game-related sector, イマニジア, トーセ and エヌジェイHD were mixed. In the debugging and middleware segment, HEROZ moved to update its year-to-date high.
