Tesla has begun selling its Powerwall 3 home battery in Japan. The hybrid system integrates solar generation and energy storage, with significantly improved conversion efficiency and output. Installation is expected to begin around September–October 2026.
Tesla has launched its new Powerwall 3 home battery in Japan. The hybrid system directly integrates solar generation and energy storage, achieving a DC-to-AC conversion efficiency of 97.5%. Compared with the previous model, it is expected to significantly simplify installation and reduce the number of system components.
Powerwall 3 has a storage capacity of 13.5 kWh, rated output and backup output of 9.69 kW, and peak output approximately twice that of Powerwall 2. In coordination with solar generation, it is designed to optimize nighttime consumption and has enhanced capabilities to maintain household power supplies during outages.
It operates at temperatures ranging from minus 20°C to plus 50°C, with improved dust resistance, salt-damage resistance and water-ingress resistance. It can be installed either indoors or outdoors and supports both floor mounting and wall mounting. Certification for the Japanese market and eligibility for subsidies have also been enhanced.
Opticaster, an AI technology integrated into Tesla Home, a home energy management system, learns weather forecasts and electricity demand forecasts to automatically optimize charging and discharging. Compliance with certifications and subsidy schemes in Japan is also being advanced to encourage the use of available subsidies.
