A discussion between KDDI and Studio addressed the value of corporate websites in the age of AI, including the handling of primary information and the in-house operation of web platforms and infrastructure. The discussion presented examples of how to ensure timely IR updates, design brand governance and advance the shift to in-house operations.
The KDDI Group operates large-scale websites, overseeing several million PV per month and approximately 6,000 pages. Its mission is to publish primary information, including IR announcements and emergency updates during disasters, quickly and accurately, with broad involvement from the relevant departments.
The official au and UQ websites generate several tens of millions of PV per month. Operations are handled by 9 dedicated employees and approximately 15 external staff, with around 300 people involved in internal coordination. Rather than posting information as is, the site structure and user journeys leading visitors to their objectives are considered important.
The shift to in-house operations was driven by the need to eliminate the black-boxing caused by reliance on external providers and the telephone-game effect. In the 2025 redesign of the corporate website, the company redefined its brand and values and repeatedly organised its keywords into a journey map.
To ensure governance, the company places emphasis on applying brand guidelines and embedding its internal philosophy. Its CMS uses reusable components to maintain quality while allowing flexible design when necessary, and the company plans to advance the shift to in-house operations in stages.
