Coterie Holdings announced plans to acquire Berry Bros. & Rudd's Japan wholesale business. The wholesale business will be transferred to The Wine Experience, along with relationships with many producers, while Berry Bros. & Rudd's business serving individual customers in Japan will be maintained.
On 15 October 2026, Coterie Holdings announced plans to acquire Berry Bros. & Rudd's Japan wholesale business. The acquisition will expand its sales network in Asia and transfer most of Berry Bros. & Rudd's import operations in the Japanese market to Coterie's The Wine Experience. Many of its relationships with producers are also expected to be transferred to The Wine Experience. The financial terms have not been disclosed.
Meanwhile, Berry Bros. & Rudd's business serving individual customers in Japan will continue to operate as before, with the London-based company continuing to maintain those relationships. Services for individual customers will continue after the transition, and the current structure in the Japanese market will follow the policy in place since 2008.
Following completion of the transaction, the system for supplying fine wines in Japan may be restructured. The transfer of many of the wholesale business's relationships with producers is expected to affect the structure of domestic distribution channels and sales networks. It also suggests a trend towards consolidation in the international fine-wine distribution industry.
Coterie CEO Michael Saunders said that completing the transition smoothly would be the top priority and indicated the company's intention to continue providing services to customers. Lizzy Rudd said that the Japanese market was important and that she hoped to strengthen services for individual customers across Asia.
