Aichi Toyota and Nagoya Railroad jointly produced a road-safety booklet featuring Grampus-kun and Doala to contribute to the local community and promote road-safety education for children. The booklet was distributed to first-grade pupils at elementary schools in Nagoya in July 2026 and has reportedly received a positive response.
The collaboration between Aichi Toyota and Nagoya Railroad began as a contribution to the local community, prompted by an informal conversation about whether the power of sport could be used to deliver value to the community. The companies shared the challenge of creating everyday points of contact and explored ways to make the initiative familiar not only to people who use the railway along its routes, but also to children who do not use trains.
In developing the booklet, the companies placed equal emphasis on making it enjoyable and enabling children to learn accurate information. They featured Grampus-kun of Nagoya Grampus and Doala, the mascot of the Chunichi Dragons, creating a story-based format for communicating traffic rules and etiquette when using public transport. Feedback from parents was also incorporated, and the wording was considered from a child’s perspective.
The booklet was distributed in July 2026 to first-grade pupils at public elementary schools and special-needs schools in Nagoya, while distribution also took place at stores and stations. At a presentation ceremony held at Yobitsugi Elementary School on 14 July, cheers rose when Grampus-kun appeared in front of the pupils, indicating the response the booklet had generated.
After distribution, people asked to take copies home to their grandchildren, and companies received requests to use the booklet internally and with business partners. The response continued until the distributed stock ran out. The initiative was seen as having helped invigorate the local community through the power of sport.
