Remixpoint announced that the NC Tottori City Ketocho 2 Energy Storage Facility, a grid-connected energy storage facility in Tottori City, had begun operations for the balancing market. This is the 5th facility operated by the group to enter the market.
Monthly revenue from the facility is expected to be approximately ¥15 million, 25% below the approximately ¥20 million previously assumed for earlier market-entry projects, reflecting conditions in the balancing market. The company also disclosed that it is targeting a 3–5-year investment payback for each energy storage facility with approximately 2 MW of output and approximately 8 MWh of capacity.
The NC Tottori City Ketocho 2 Energy Storage Facility has a rated output of 1,999 kW and rated capacity of 8,322 kWh. It will combine charging and discharging based on market prices on the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX) with the provision of balancing capacity to the balancing market. Going forward, the company plans to build an operating framework centered on primary balancing capacity while also using secondary and tertiary balancing-capacity products and multiple markets, including JEPX and the capacity market.
The balancing market is a market for trading balancing capacity to adjust the balance between electricity supply and demand. The company also indicated a policy of expanding its market participation based on bidding conditions and other factors.
