The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and NEC Corporation signed a memorandum of cooperation on 7 September 2026 to promote the conservation of natural capital and climate action through digital technologies, including AI. The parties aim to develop assessment methods for conserving biodiversity, strengthening AI and digital infrastructure such as data centers through the use of natural-environment data, and improving the resilience of local communities.
Specific activities planned for the future include jointly writing and publishing a white paper on improving resilience through the use of natural-environment data, as well as holding workshops for Ethiopian coffee farmers using CropScope, an agricultural ICT platform. The parties will examine the potential of data-driven agriculture in responding to climate change and advance the development of sustainable international supply chains in collaboration with local communities.
