Suzuki announced "Technology Strategy 2026 for the Next 10 Years" and displayed 3 new engines with 2030 in mind. Its technology lineup, including the R06D hybrid for kei cars, drew attention.
On 25 September, Suzuki announced "Technology Strategy 2026 for the Next 10 Years" and outlined efforts to minimise energy consumption through both electrification and internal combustion, centred on 3 new engines, including a parallel hybrid rather than a mild hybrid. The technologies targeted for commercialisation by around 2030 also include measures to improve development efficiency and strengthen vehicle development and production capabilities, and engines that appear close to actual commercialisation were unveiled.
The new R06D hybrid for kei cars combines a highly efficient 48V MGU between a 0.66-litre inline 3-cylinder engine and a CVT. The engine will be available in turbocharged and naturally aspirated versions, and the company also presented CO2 reductions using E20-compatible fuel.
