“SIAL Paris 2026,” one of Europe’s largest food trade fairs, has opened in the suburbs of Paris, with approximately 60 Japanese companies exhibiting. The event runs through the 21st, and companies are promoting processed tea, including matcha, and processed seafood products to develop sales channels.
Approximately 60 Japanese companies are exhibiting as part of the Japan Pavilion at “SIAL Paris 2026,” one of Europe’s largest food trade fairs, which opened in the suburbs of Paris. In addition to processed tea products such as matcha, seafood processors handling scallops and sea urchin are seeking to promote their products to food wholesalers.
According to the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), which supports the exhibiting companies, Japan’s exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products and food to the EU have increased every year since 2020, reaching ¥99.7 billion in 2025. Although the weaker yen is providing a tailwind for exporting companies, the benefits are limited, partly because of rising fuel costs. The exhibition is scheduled to run through the 21st.
The event is being held in the suburbs of Paris, giving local exhibitors an opportunity to appeal directly to local wholesalers. SIAL Paris 2026 is positioned as part of Japanese companies’ efforts to develop the European market, and future developments will be closely watched.
