A survey of 500 ChatGPT or Gemini users examined ways of using vacant homes suggested by AI. The rankings showed single-family home rentals in first place, rental spaces in second and accommodation facilities in third. The survey was conducted from 30 September to 2 October 2026 and received 500 responses.
AlbaLink’s Vacant Home Acquisition Team conducted a survey of 500 ChatGPT or Gemini users on “Ways of Using Vacant Homes Suggested by AI” and published the results as a ranking. The survey was conducted online from 30 September to 2 October 2026, with respondents participating voluntarily, and there were 500 valid responses.
Single-family home rentals ranked first at 29.0%, followed by rental spaces at 18.2% and accommodation facilities at 17.2%. Many respondents favored retaining and using the buildings rather than demolishing them and making effective use of the land, citing ways to use the properties without extensive renovations or rebuilding.
Specific examples included multipurpose uses such as “a coworking space combined with a community café” and “a traditional-house café combined with a shared kitchen.” Many responses tended to suggest places that could serve a variety of purposes.
Overall, the suggestions focused on using vacant homes in their existing condition, keeping initial costs down and generating revenue. Many proposals were also seen as contributing to the revitalization of local communities. Actual assessments should take into account the condition of the vacant home, demand and the burden of initial costs as a whole.
