A mixed-use commercial complex will open in phases from December 2026 at the former Kumamoto City Hospital site. The anchor tenants will be NAFCO and Lopia, joined by DAISO and PISOLA, for a total of 4 stores.
The commercial complex planned at the former Kumamoto City Hospital site in Higashi Ward, Kumamoto, provisionally named the Kotoh SM Commercial Complex, is scheduled to open in phases from December 2026. The site covers approximately 1.4 hectares, the total floor area exceeds approximately 12,000 m², and the complex will have 4 stores in total. The successful bidder is 同仁グループ. The project will use a three-building layout, combining the existing administration building, which will undergo seismic retrofitting, with new buildings.
In the floor plan, Lopia will occupy the second floor of the mixed-use commercial building, NAFCO the first floor, and DAISO the first floor of the former hospital administration building. PISOLA will occupy a separate standalone building on the site. The first- and second-floor uses are clearly separated to improve the convenience of customer circulation.
Lopia will open on the second floor of NAFCO's new building as its first newly built collaborative flagship store in Kyushu. It is scheduled to be Lopia's second store in Kumamoto City and will operate as a food discount supermarket offering meat, produce, seafood, prepared foods and groceries.
Following the release of recruitment information, the tenants have begun recruiting opening staff in phases. The 4 stores are expected to be fully open by spring 2027.
