Honda’s CB400 SUPER FOUR has arrived with a newly designed inline 4-cylinder engine and Honda E-Clutch. The test ride report discusses its reach to the ground and stability, as well as its ease of handling at low speeds.
The long-popular CB400 SUPER FOUR was discontinued once in 2022, then returned as a new-generation model with an inline 4-cylinder engine and E-Clutch. It adopts a new engine and frame, redesigning the conventional Super Four image for the modern era.
Its specifications include a 399cc liquid-cooled inline 4-cylinder DOHC engine, maximum power of 58PS/11500rpm, maximum torque of 38N·m/9750rpm, a vehicle weight of 187kg, a seat height of 780mm and a fuel tank capacity of 15L. It is also equipped with E-Clutch, throttle-by-wire and riding modes. Reaching the ground while seated felt more stable than expected, and even with the 780mm seat height, it was easy to place both feet on the ground.
The combination of front inverted suspension and a rear linkage-type monoshock was designed to provide supple movement initially while maintaining firm support deeper in the stroke. The riding position naturally keeps the upper body upright and provides a broad field of view, with little tension in the arms. While some riders commented that the CB400 SUPER FOUR E-Clutch felt more comfortable on long rides, its ease of handling at low speeds has also been well received.
