Nippon Paint coatings were selected for the exterior of Kintetsu Railway’s sightseeing train “Les Saveurs Shima.” The design evokes the sea of Ise-Shima with an all-over blue metallic and white finish, and service begins on 1 November 2026.
Nippon Paint Industrial Coatings announced that its coatings were selected for the exterior of “Les Saveurs Shima,” a restaurant train connecting Kintetsu-Nagoya Station and Kashikojima Station. Service begins on 1 November 2026. The entire train body is finished in blue metallic and white coatings to evoke the sea of Ise-Shima. Further details are based on the company’s news release.
The train’s design incorporates an effect created by blending a material called interference mica, which causes the color tone to change depending on the viewing angle and how the light falls, giving the appearance of sunlight sparkling on the surface of the water. The white coating creates a contrast with the blue metallic color in clear weather and is designed as a soft white with a pale yellow tint to evoke the sandy beaches and waves of the sea.
Consideration has also been given to paint application workability, with measures taken to minimize the effects of the painting process and the surrounding environment so that the paint color can be reproduced consistently. The coatings are designed to combine the train’s visual appeal with protective performance, and efforts are expected to continue to improve their protective function and pursue design appeal so that the train can retain its beauty over the long term.
