TOPPAN Holdings announced that it will conduct a 2-for-1 stock split with 30 September as the record date. The shares rose initially on buying in morning trading, but soon turned lower, and buying failed to persist.
TOPPAN shares rose ¥87 from the previous day to ¥5,088 in morning trading, but subsequently turned slightly lower and remained soft throughout the day. Although the impact of the stock split, which supported the initial buying, was discussed in some quarters, the shares showed limited upside.
The stock split announced on the 27th will divide each share into 2 shares, with 30 September set as the record date. The minimum investment is expected to fall from the current level of around ¥500,000 to approximately ¥250,000, raising expectations of a broader investor base and improved liquidity.
Although the recent share price movement had partly priced in expectations for the split, buying momentum failed to persist, and the shares traded with their limited upside clearly in focus. The outlook will depend on the extent to which the split delivers its anticipated effects and on the market's response.
