A new Umaka-chan product combining two winter staples is here. <Maedaya-supervised motsunabe-style tonkotsu> will be launched in limited quantities in Kyushu, Okinawa and Yamaguchi Prefecture, with sales beginning on 16 November 2026.
A new product, Umaka-chan <Maedaya-supervised motsunabe-style tonkotsu>, combining the tonkotsu flavour of Umaka-chan with motsunabe (miso flavour) from the popular Kyushu restaurant Hakata Motsunabe Maedaya, will be launched in limited quantities at supermarkets and other outlets in Kyushu, Okinawa and Yamaguchi Prefecture. The net content is 93g (noodles: 80g), the launch date is 16 November 2026, and the suggested retail price is ¥136 (excluding tax); a five-pack will be priced at ¥680 (excluding tax).
The development background explains that the aim is to convey the appeal of winter by combining motsunabe, a winter staple in Fukuoka, with Umaka-chan. To recreate the flavour of Hakata Motsunabe Maedaya's popular menu item, the powdered soup contains beef extract, collagen and gelatin, balancing the umami of beef offal with the flavour of miso. Particular attention was also paid to the garlic flavour, including a cooked-garlic note.
The product underwent more than 170 trial formulations. While eating more than 100 bowls of ramen a year, the development lead explored a balance that would capture the characteristics of both products. The joint development effort by Maedaya and House Foods achieved a fusion of Maedaya's motsunabe flavour and a tonkotsu-miso taste.
The product is also linked to the Kyushu Revitalisation Project. Umaka-chan is described as part of an initiative to contribute to the local community, centred on Kyushu, Okinawa and Yamaguchi.
