イー・ガーディアン, which provides social media post monitoring, is entering a period in which demand for data breach countermeasures is being supported by a series of large-scale personal data breaches since autumn 2026 and the disclosure of a vulnerability in its cybersecurity business. At the same time, some of the company’s core revenue streams are trending downward, raising issues that could affect its credibility.
イー・ガーディアン monitors posts on social media and review sites around the clock, detecting and removing problematic content, while also operating in the cybersecurity field, including WAFs. A key feature of its business is the use of the SiteGuard series from a group company, together with cybersecurity personnel, to operate on both fronts: post monitoring and defense.
From around September 2026, Japan saw a series of personal data breaches caused by unauthorized access, prompting JPCERT/CC and the National Cybersecurity Office of the Cabinet Secretariat to issue an alert in October. This is seen as a period in which demand for the cybersecurity business is rising.
However, post monitoring and customer support, which account for just over 60% of revenue, have continued to be affected by reductions in business from major customers, and profits have been trending downward for several years. In addition, a vulnerability in SiteGuard Server Edition that had already been confirmed as exploited was disclosed in October 2026, heightening concerns that the product’s defensive functions could themselves become an entry point for attacks.
Whether the company can “transform amid a wave of data breaches” is said to depend less on the strength of this tailwind than on how it overcomes the contraction of its core business and the test of confidence. Assessing the structure and risks of the business will require a focus on metrics such as product-level revenue, gross margins and progress against plan in its earnings releases.
