At the 14th Roadside Station Festival in Rumoi, NTN unveiled a medical shelter model using the N3 N-Cube in Rumoi, Hokkaido. The exhibition was held in cooperation with the Hokkaido Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and Rumoi Municipal Hospital, with the model intended for use as a medical space during disasters.
The N3 N-Cube exhibited is a self-contained power system that uses renewable energy such as solar and wind power. It is transported by truck and used as a warehouse or waiting area during normal times, then transported to disaster-hit areas to supply power during emergencies. The model had space and beds for approximately 3–4 medical professionals to conduct examinations, as well as communications equipment for telemedicine.
The exhibition model was transported by vehicle from Honshu to the Roadside Station Rumoi and installed by crane the day before. On the day of the event, staff from Rumoi Municipal Hospital brought in medical equipment, and visitors took part in health-check demonstrations. Attendance reached approximately 250 people.
NTN has indicated that it plans to expand the series beyond medical applications during disasters to include support for people and companion animals during disasters. It aims to promote the model as a multipurpose shelter connecting normal operations and emergencies.
