As falsified standard seismic ground motion data at Chubu Electric Power came to light during the review of the restart of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, the company’s new president, Yasui Minoru (安井 稔), expressed his intention to recalculate the figures. At his inaugural press conference, he said, “You all have the right to know what the real figures are.”
In connection with the review of the restart of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, Chubu Electric Power is facing an issue involving the discovery of improper manipulation of standard seismic ground motion data. This resulted in the withdrawal of its reapplication, and the company has indicated a policy of recalculating the standard seismic ground motion as part of its efforts to restore trust.
Yasui Minoru (安井 稔), who took office as president on 8 October, stated his intention to review the data in line with guidelines issued by an industry association. He said, “The standard seismic ground motion was calculated using an inappropriate method this time, but what are the real figures? Naturally, I believe you all have the right to know.”
It has been reported that procedures for disciplinary action against those involved following the data irregularities are scheduled to proceed, with completion targeted for the end of November. Future developments in the review of the restart of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station are expected to depend on progress in recalculating the data and taking disciplinary action against those involved.
