The Nikkei 225 closed at ¥64,214, down ¥111 from the previous day, marking its fourth consecutive decline. Among company-specific catalysts, buying interest in Nitori Holdings and Mitsubishi Corporation stood out.
The Nikkei 225 ended the Tokyo market down ¥111 from the previous day. Although buying back emerged early in the session, the market lacked clear direction, and there were occasions in the afternoon when losses widened. The Nikkei 225 ultimately closed at ¥64,214. The TOPIX rebounded, while the TSE Growth Market Index fell for a fourth straight day.
Among individual stocks, Nitori Holdings rebounded sharply, rising 8.4% to ¥3,275. Its August same-store sales in Japan rose 4.4% year on year, accelerating from July, which served as a buying catalyst. Mitsubishi Corporation also rebounded, rising 4.1% to ¥5,059.
Nippon Ham, meanwhile, fell 3.3% to ¥6,118 after a foreign securities firm lowered its investment rating, creating a selling catalyst. Fast Retailing declined for a third consecutive day, with sluggish summer apparel sales at Uniqlo's domestic same-store outlets cited as a selling factor. Astroscale Holdings fell 4.0% to ¥1,040 for a fourth straight decline.
The market outlook is for the Nikkei 225 to remain directionless, with stock selection continuing to diverge based on company-specific catalysts. Attention is focused on upcoming factors, including the release of the U.S. ISM Non-Manufacturing Index.
