A survey found that 56.8% of respondents were reluctant to buy used brand-name bags, while 44.0% intended to use rental services. The results indicate that reluctance to buy used items and the option of using bags only when needed exist separately.
According to a survey conducted by Laxus Technologies of brand-name bag users and prospective buyers, 56.8% of respondents said they were reluctant to buy used brand-name bags, while 44.0% said they would like to try a rental service. Among those reluctant to buy used bags, 29.5%, equivalent to approximately 1 in 3, said they would use a rental service.
The most common barrier before purchase was the perception that the price was too high, cited by 68.0%. After purchase, concerns continued, including having few occasions to use the bag at 30.9%, being unable to decide to dispose of it at 28.6%, and worrying about scratches and stains at 26.4%. There is also a degree of reluctance toward used items, and multiple psychological factors influence purchasing decisions.
Rental services are attracting attention as a third option. Rental service usage intention was 44.0%, and approximately 29.5% of those reluctant to buy used bags wanted to rent. Reasons for choosing rental services include affordability, avoiding a poor purchase decision, and making use of seasonal differences, with intention to use them for special occasions also high.
Laxus offers monthly flat-rate plans, authentication services and cleaning, proposing a new way to use bags by choosing them only when needed without owning them.
