Mitsui Fudosan has commenced construction of a hotel project in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, under a provisional name. This will be the first Mitsui Garden Hotels property in Gifu Prefecture, with an opening targeted for early 2029. The site is in central Takayama, approximately a 2-minute walk from Takayama Station on the JR Takayama Main Line, and is expected to serve as a tourism base with access to surrounding cities.
On 26 October 2026, construction commenced on the “Gifu Prefecture Takayama City Hotel Plan” in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture. Mitsui Fudosan and Mitsui Fudosan Hotel Management will develop it as the first “Mitsui Garden Hotels” property in Gifu Prefecture, with an opening planned for early 2029.
The site is approximately a 2-minute walk from Takayama Station on the JR Takayama Main Line. Historic and cultural attractions, including the old townscape and the Takayama Festival, are located nearby. The site also offers convenient access to surrounding tourist destinations such as Shirakawa-go, Kamikochi, Kanazawa and Toyama, and could serve as a base for wider-area tourism.
The plan includes 187 guest rooms, as well as a restaurant and bar and bathing facilities. The hotel’s interiors will incorporate designs evoking Hida’s woodworking culture, with the aim of creating spaces that convey the warmth of wood.
A bathing facility is planned for the top floor, offering views of the mountains and cityscape of Hida-Takayama. In addition to providing convenience as a base for exploring the historic town, the project aims to create a place where the hotel stay itself can be a purpose of the trip.
