MISUMI Group Inc. established the MISUMI Imprint Foundation in the United States to support engineering education, applied design and robotics. It is the first corporate foundation established by the MISUMI Group, with a seed investment of US$2 million, equivalent to approximately ¥300 million at the exchange rate at the time.
The foundation was established in response to labor shortages. As AI expands into physical systems, demand is increasing for engineers, machining technicians, CNC programmers, quality-control personnel and manufacturing-floor supervisors.
The 3 grant areas are scholarships and educational support, manufacturing education through maker programs, and industry-academia collaboration. Scholarships will provide financial support to students studying engineering or manufacturing. Other initiatives include providing makerspaces, supporting student participation in hackathons, and developing curricula through collaboration among companies. The first grant program is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
The foundation plans to call on its supplier network to make joint contributions. Participation will take the form of voluntary annual donations, with contributors joining the advisory board and jointly deciding and announcing the grant areas. The foundation was launched in the United States, with global expansion planned for the future.
