The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is scaling back EV purchase subsidies, with the changes scheduled to take effect in January 2027. Subsidies for eligible vehicles will be reduced by up to ¥520,000, while the subsidy for Toyota’s bZ4X will be cut from ¥1.3 million to ¥780,000.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has indicated a policy of scaling back purchase subsidies for electric vehicles and said that the changes are expected to take effect in January 2027.
The maximum subsidy reduction is expected to reach ¥520,000, and the subsidy program as a whole is expected to be reviewed.
Specifically, the subsidy for Toyota’s electric SUV, the “bZ4X,” is scheduled to be reduced from ¥1.3 million to ¥780,000.
