Hitachi Energy has announced plans to build a new transformer manufacturing plant in Mississippi. The total investment will be $528 million (approximately ¥82 billion), and the project will proceed as part of an agreement between the Japanese and US governments.
The new plant will be approximately twice the size of the existing plant and will more than double production capacity. Once completed, production will be transferred to the new plant, while the existing plant will be used as a warehouse and training facility.
Construction of the new plant is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, with production expected to start in 2029. The investment is expected to create more than 700 jobs locally.
The Japanese and US governments agreed last July on total investment by Japan, and Hitachi, Ltd. was also listed as an investment target in a fact sheet released in October.
