It has been announced that Kathleen Kennedy (キャスリーン・ケネディ), former president of Lucasfilm and a producer, has been appointed to oversee the ceremonies and content division for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics. The appointment was reported by The Hollywood Reporter and others.
Kennedy will take on the role of overseeing the 4 ceremonies as the successor to Netflix’s chief content officer. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 14 July 2028, the closing ceremony for 30 July, the Paralympic opening ceremony for 15 August and the closing ceremony for 27 August.
Kennedy described the Olympics as “a milestone in my life” and commented that she had watched many Games since the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
Casey Wasserman (ケイシー・ワッサーマン), president of the Games’ organising committee, praised her as “a legendary figure” and expressed his expectations that she would be the right person to evoke the magic of Hollywood.
Kennedy left Lucasfilm at the end of 2025, but has maintained ties with the company and is expected to be involved as a producer in the new film Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling.
