Toho Pharmaceutical and Maruishi Pharmaceutical announced a demonstration of emergency transportation using the Shinkansen in cooperation with JR Tokai, JR West and JR East. General anesthetic and hand sanitizer were transported at a controlled temperature from a logistics center in Hiroshima to a facility in Ishikawa, with no delays, temperature deviations or product damage.
Toho Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Toho Holdings, and Maruishi Pharmaceutical announced that they had conducted a transportation demonstration in cooperation with JR Tokai, JR West and JR East to develop a business continuity plan (BCP) for large-scale disasters.
The scenario assumed a disaster on the Sea of Japan side that rendered roads and ports inoperable. Intravenous propofol, a general anesthetic, and hand sanitizer were transported from Toho Pharmaceutical's logistics center in Hiroshima Prefecture to a facility in Ishikawa Prefecture.
The transport used the Salm temperature-controlled transport device developed by Toho Pharmaceutical. The operation was conducted under strict temperature control, confirming the effectiveness of combining the Shinkansen's speed with the transport technology. No delays, temperature deviations or product damage occurred.
