Mitsubishi Electric is offering an end-to-end OT security solution to address vulnerabilities at OT sites, supporting customers from identifying on-site issues through countermeasure design, implementation and post-implementation monitoring. It acquired Nozomi Networks in 2026 and aims to become the global No. 1.
While the spread of IoT and AI is driving digital transformation at OT sites, securing control and operational equipment requires more than technology, with consensus-building within organisations presenting a major obstacle. Mitsubishi Electric’s OT Security Business Promotion Division has established a framework providing integrated services from assessment through countermeasures and operations, combining on-site expertise with Nozomi Networks’ technology to develop the business into a core operation.
The division was established in 2023 and acquired Nozomi Networks in 2026. It regards the first hurdle as ensuring that management, IT departments and on-site personnel share the same understanding of on-site issues, and also uses simulated factories as a means of building consensus.
Demonstrations using simulated factories enable management to experience business risks, IT departments to experience risks specific to OT, and on-site personnel to experience equipment-safety risks, serving as a forum for aligning the understanding of all 3 groups. Yokohama Lab was moved to Yokohama i-Mark Place, and an Osaka Lab was also opened. Collaboration with co-creation spaces is generating broader opportunities for data use and proposals to improve on-site operations.
Countermeasures begin with assessing the current situation, followed by prioritisation, implementation and operations. SOC operations combine expertise developed in the financial sector with OT knowledge to provide 24/7/365 monitoring. Based on the premise that OT sites cannot be shut down, the company seeks to minimise the risk of operational stoppages while also applying data use to digital transformation.
Going forward, the company will promote the expansion of co-creation spaces centred on Serendie and the wider adoption of OT security with a view to global expansion. Mitsubishi Electric plans to expand solutions that use on-site data by combining its expertise as a manufacturer of on-site equipment with Nozomi’s visualisation technology.
