PFAS in groundwater on the premises of Nohmi Bosai's Menuma-Higashi facility in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, exceeded the national guideline value, and 19 downstream wells will be surveyed. An additional survey within a 500-metre radius is under consideration.
Kumagaya City announced on the 26th that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exceeding the national guideline value had been detected in groundwater on the premises of Nohmi Bosai's Menuma-Higashi facility.
The survey will cover 19 downstream wells, and the measured groundwater levels may have exceeded the guideline value at all of them. The city plans to conduct an additional survey within a 500-metre radius of the facility.
The results of the survey, including the number of detections and site names, have been made public, and the local government will strengthen water quality monitoring.
Nohmi Bosai recognises as a fact that PFAS was detected in groundwater at the facility and will await the publication of the results of future surveys.
