Nissan will change the executive responsible for its design division from Alfonso Albaisa, who will leave office, to Matthew Weaver, who worked on the Juke and Qashqai and is scheduled to assume the executive role overseeing global design.
Nissan announced a key personnel change under which Alfonso Albaisa, the executive responsible for global design, will leave office. His departure is scheduled for 31 December 2026, and he is expected to leave Nissan.
Matthew Weaver, currently a senior design director, will assume the executive role overseeing global design. Weaver has experience working on the design of the Juke and Qashqai. He became vice president of Nissan Design Europe in 2020 and has served as senior design director for global design since 2025.
Since joining Nissan in 1988, Albaisa has held key positions at Nissan North America, Nissan Design Europe and Nissan Design America. After serving as design director for Nissan's global design strategy, he oversaw Nissan's global design from 2017 onward. He had been expected to continue working as an adviser after leaving office, but will formally leave Nissan on the same date.
The direction Nissan Design will take under the new structure will be closely watched. The focus going forward will be the reforms and strategy pursued under Weaver's leadership.
