24 of the 26 construction companies expanded the application scope of structural post-installed anchors, which attach steel members after concrete has hardened, by obtaining a strength designation from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The anchors can now be used in new construction and renovation work on buildings 60 m or less in height.
24 general contractors and other companies obtained a strength designation from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to expand the application scope of structural post-installed anchors for reinforced-concrete structural frames, allowing steel members to be attached after the concrete has hardened. The anchors can now be used in the construction of new buildings up to 60 m in height, as well as extensions, alterations and major repair work on existing buildings.
The designation was obtained by 24 companies. The four applicable connection locations are reinforced-concrete slabs and floor secondary beams, wind-resistant secondary beams and studs, eave-supporting secondary beams and studs, and stairs. Tools are limited to products made by Hilti Japan, and certification for the structural members was also obtained.
To support design and expand applications, 26 companies established the Structural Post-Installed Anchor Research Association, led by its organizing company, 飛島建設. The association aims to promote adoption through training seminars for engineers and the issuance of completion certificates. The method is also expected to improve the precision of construction management, which has been an issue to date, and help reduce noise, vibration and waste.
