FUJIFILM Holdings will undertake a major production expansion to increase its supply capacity for magnetic tape used for data storage fivefold. To meet growing demand from AI data centres, it will invest approximately ¥10 billion and establish the expanded production framework by fiscal 2028.
Fujifilm plans a major production expansion to increase its supply capacity for magnetic tape used for data storage fivefold. The investment will be the largest production expansion in 20 years and is intended to meet growing demand from AI data centres.
The company will strengthen production capacity, centred on advanced products with capacities of up to around 100 terabytes, at its factory in Odawara, Kanagawa Prefecture. Under the plan, a total of ¥10 billion will be invested in the factory, with capital investment expected to be completed by fiscal 2028.
The production expansion is expected to increase overall shipments on a capacity basis, and the company is reportedly strengthening its supply framework in response to the expanding data storage market, including AI-related demand.
