Kawasaki Heavy Industries announced that it had produced a prototype of Home LEO, a social robot for the healthcare sector. Home LEO is intended to support older people living at home and aims to recognize its surrounding environment and act autonomously.
Key features include personalized communication, support for a safe and secure life at home, autonomous daily-life assistance using physical AI, and a healthcare platform connecting medical care, nursing care and home-based services. The company plans to implement fall detection, detection of signs of changes in physical condition, and data sharing and coordination in the future.
Going forward, Kawasaki Heavy Industries plans to conduct repeated demonstration tests while working with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and local governments, with a market launch targeted for FY2028. The company plans to expand into this new area supporting life at home in addition to its existing range of solutions.
Based on its track record with the surgical-assistance robot hinotori, the indoor delivery robot FORRO and the semi-humanoid robot Nyokkey, the company has indicated a policy of expanding its healthcare solutions into the home-care field.
