The Nikkei 225 fell back in the Tokyo stock market on the morning of the 27th. The morning close was ¥66,164.19, down ¥97.97 from the previous day. Buying emerged mainly in AI- and semiconductor-related stocks after investors welcomed U.S. NVIDIA's earnings.
However, once the buying subsided, profit-taking selling prevailed in some AI- and semiconductor-related stocks, and the Nikkei 225 at one point fell by more than ¥400.
NVIDIA's quarterly results showed higher revenue and profit that exceeded market expectations, while its full-year revenue growth outlook for the fiscal year ending January 2028 was also above market expectations. NVIDIA shares rose in after-hours trading, while U.S. stock index futures also advanced, sending the Nikkei 225 up by nearly ¥700 at one point in the morning.
Following remarks by a deputy governor of the Bank of Japan, the rise in interest rates paused, and futures also moved to support the Nikkei 225. As of the morning close, trading value on the TSE Prime Market was approximately ¥427.45 billion, with trading volume of approximately 974.67 million shares.
Among individual stocks as of the morning close, Fast Retailing, Chugai Pharmaceutical and KDDI fell, while AI- and semiconductor-related stocks including Kioxia, which was in the news over plans for a new manufacturing building in Iwate Prefecture, moved significantly.
The TOPIX on the TSE Prime Market extended its gains slightly, closing the morning session at 4,114.70 points.
