The Nikkei 225 fell for the first time in 6 trading days in the Tokyo stock market, closing at ¥65,877.62, down ¥486.58 from the previous day. It traded firmly in the morning against the backdrop of gains in AI-related stocks in the previous day's U.S. market, but selling prevailed in the afternoon as the rapid rise and consecutive gains prompted profit-taking.
The Nikkei 225 extended its morning gains, rising as high as ¥67,034.74 and recovering the ¥67,000 level. It turned lower again in the afternoon and closed near its lows toward the end of the session. Among the TSE's 33 sectors, insurance, banks, and electric power and gas rose, while pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, and mining declined.
