Sharp has announced NIAH, an AI-powered home-appliance support service that works with multiple appliances, including air conditioners and washing machines, to address everyday household needs. NIAH can suggest how to store leftover ingredients when placing them in the refrigerator and change the refrigerator to a mode suited to storage.
The service is compatible with 52 models, including washing machines and air conditioners. Sharp is considering expanding support in the future to appliances made by other manufacturers.
Nagasawa Tadao (長沢忠郎), head of Sharp's SmartLife business division, said the aim was to use AI technology to make increasingly complex user interfaces easier to understand and meet users' needs. He indicated that the company intends to keep pace with the growing functionality of home appliances through the use of technology and enhance its competitiveness against overseas manufacturers.
