Apple announced the new smart-home device HomeView. It features a 7-inch square display and is positioned as a smart speaker with a display.
One of its main features is facial recognition for up to 6 registered people, with each person’s apps and widgets displayed on a personalized screen. Displaying personal information requires a recently unlocked iPhone or iPad on the same Wi-Fi network.
Siri AI is provided in beta and in English only. It responds conversationally and can operate across apps. Data is processed in an isolated area called Secure Exclaves, with access to the data described as limited.
The device includes a smart-home control hub, allowing users to control lighting and air conditioning and view camera footage through the Home app. Both models are priced at $299, with pre-orders beginning in multiple countries and sales scheduled for November.
Apple also announced Siri AI-enabled Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2 on the same day. Japan is excluded, and Siri AI will be offered in English only.
