NTKセラテック has completed a new plant in Tomiya, Miyagi Prefecture, and will launch full-scale production of ceramic components for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The company aims to begin operations during fiscal 2026 and expects production capacity to increase 2.5-fold from fiscal 2025 levels by fiscal 2029.
NTKセラテック, part of the 日本特殊陶業 Group, held a completion ceremony on the 1st for its new plant in Tomiya, Miyagi Prefecture, where construction had been underway, and will begin producing ceramic components for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Products will include electrostatic chucks that hold silicon wafers in place, with equipment manufacturers such as Tokyo Electron among the customers.
The new plant is part of a plan by the 日本特殊陶業 Group to acquire approximately 9 hectares of land in the surrounding area and invest several tens of billions of yen in expansion. The completed manufacturing building has two floors above ground, incorporates seismic isolation, and has a total floor area of 22,000 square meters, including clean rooms.
The company is also considering introducing autonomous guided transport robots in the future. At the same time, it expects solar power generation installed throughout the plant, including the adjacent welfare building, to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 940 tons annually. NTKセラテック is also exploring collaboration with NanoTerasu, a next-generation synchrotron radiation facility operated by Tohoku University.
日本特殊陶業, whose core business is engine spark plugs, is optimizing its business portfolio in light of the spread of EVs and has indicated that it will strengthen investment in NTKセラテック as the core of the group’s semiconductor business.
