The Tour AD EK and PT were compared by hitting them side by side, and an expert examined the effects of the EK’s larger head and new mandrel. The current status of FI and DI and comparisons with shafts from other manufacturers were also discussed, highlighting the EK as an option for PT users.
In an interview conducted by the Kinoshita editorial team, the Graphite Design Tour AD PT and the new EK were compared by hitting them side by side, introducing the EK’s use of a new GC-series mandrel and its compatibility with larger heads. Against the backdrop of adoption by Hideki Matsuyama and professional female golfers, the popularity of FI and the shift toward DI were also mentioned.
Hasebe Yu (長谷部祐) evaluated the EK as having a feel close to a legitimate evolution of the PT, pointing to its adaptability when paired with modern larger heads while retaining the PT’s stability and repeatability. It was said that the repeatability of the PT’s design, which avoids excessive kick and makes it less likely to miss the center, can also be felt in the EK.
The background on the head side was explained in terms of the high moment of inertia of modern heads exceeding 460cc, with the current emphasis on balancing the pursuit of head stability through impact with shaft stability. The EK was evaluated as maintaining stability while improving its resistance to variations in strike location.
The EK and PT have a similar feel, but the shared view was that the EK produces less twisting at impact and delivers more stable ball flight on mishits. Suitability by weight band was also discussed in comparison with the Ventus TR 2026 model and the Speeder NX series.
